Bench is a British-born brand specialising in street wear. It began in the late 80’s as a niche brand that took their inspiration from the urban scene of BMX biking and skateboarding. At this stage Bench focused entirely on menswear and concentrated on a range of graphic based printed t-shirts. However the small brand quickly gained popularity with those outside, as well as inside, of the skateboarding and BMX realm. In the early 90’s Bench became strongly associated with the Manchester music scene and the underground following it attracted. Their products reflected this, keeping inline with an anti-fashion look that stuck to the real needs and desires of their customer base. Bench were appreciated early on for the innovativeness shown in these fresh and simple designs.
The popularity Bench have earned has lead them to now being far more widely known and still highly respected as a brand, marketing a wealth of products to suit an urban lifestyle and aiming to appeal to every imaginable urban culture. Since 1998 Bench have created products for women as well as men, keeping to the same vein of style in a laid back and multifunctional fashion. As well as being available across the UK, Bench have expanded globally. Bench products are distributed across the USA, Canada and Australia, and in addition to this there are now Bench stores to be found throughout Germany (the first Bench standalone store was opened in Berlin in 2006), and in Poland and Greece. Despite global success, Bench aim to keep their collections fresh and interesting with looks inspired by the individuality of real people.
