Collectables was founded in 1986, when a Mr Philip Lewis began trading small collectable gifts from a barrow in the famous Metro Centre in Gateshead. The barrow was a leap of faith for Mr Lewis - the fallout from the 1984 miners strike had forced his chain of off licences to close, leaving him jobless and with just £100 in his pocket. However, his simple but effective philosophy that customers would return for more of their favourite collectable proved true. Collectables soon opened their own stores within the Metro Centre.

Collectables chosen items for retail extended from small collectables to large and as the business grew and stayed innovative, a larger range of products and areas of interest were added to the mix. Now reaching customers across the North East and beyond, Collectables consists of over 10 outlets retailing everything from fashion to kitchenware. Not bad when you think it all started with just £100 and a barrow.
